Ole Miss Completes Opening Round in Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Ole Miss women's golf team returned to action today at the Hurricane Invitational hosted by the University of Miami to kick off their 2015 spring season.
The Rebels posted an opening round 314, and are sitting in 16th place going into tomorrow's action. Taelor Rubin (Raleigh, N.C.) and Alison Hovatter (Meridianville, Ala.) led the team shooting 6-over 77 and 7-over 78 respectively.
Rubin played well on the from nine, carding a 1-over par 35, while Hovatter posted a team-best 3-over par on the back nine including making par on seven straight holes out of the turn.
Head coach Michele Drinkard is looking for the team to bounce back starting in round two on Tuesday morning.
"Today wasn't the way we envisioned our first round, but sometimes things don't go the way you planned, and it's how we react that will define this team," Drinkard said.
Highlights of the day include a big 25-foot eagle putt from Abby Newton (Katy, Texas) on the 18th hole. It was her first of the season, and Drinkard says performances like that bring motivation to the rest of the team.
"Those holes inspire us to play hard on every hole," Drinkard said. "Good things are coming, and tomorrow will be a better day."
