Hurricane Invitational

Hovatter Shines in Final Round in Miami
3/4/2015 | Women's Golf
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Ole Miss women's golf finished play at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables with strong improvement from the first two rounds.
Led by junior Alison Hovatter (Meridianville, Ala.), Ole Miss finished the tournament on a high note, posting a team score of 300 on the final day for a three-day total of 932.
The Rebels continued to improve throughout the tournament, and that was no different Wednesday. The Alabama native posted a team-best 2-over par 73, which was also the best round by a Rebel for the tournament. Her impressive round was aided by 14 holes at par or better and a 1-under par back nine.
"Today I really tried to keep it simple. My only goal was to win each shot and control only what I can control, which is my routine," Hovatter said. "Like Coach (Hugh) Freeze always says, don't blink and play the next play."
Head Coach Michele Drinkard is pleased with the improvement she saw throughout the tournament, especially from Hovatter.
"She struck the ball very well and made some key saves for par that kept her momentum flowing today," Drinkard said. "She is a grinder and I love the way she picked herself up from yesterday and never gave in."
Taelor Rubin (Raleigh, N.C.) and Stani Schiavone (Bangor, Pa.) also improved during the final round, each firing a 5-over par 75 and each posting a pair of birdies on the day.
"Taelor and Stani played much better today by simply eliminating small mistakes and staying in the present," Drinkard said. "It's easy to let the last shot mess with your mindset and they chose to forget the last one and play the next shot."
Coach Drinkard says she looks forward to Ole Miss' next tournament, which tees off at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. on March 14th.
