No. 9 Rebels Drop Match at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - In their first outdoor match in more than a month, the No. 9 ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision at Alabama here Saturday at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
With the loss, the Rebels fell to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the SEC. Alabama earned their first SEC win to improve to 9-9 and 1-2 in league play.
The Rebels got the early momentum, by winning the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 3. William Kallberg and Gustav Hansson knocked off 26th-ranked Korey Lovett and Becker O'Shaughnessey 6-3 and then Nik Scholtz and Grey Hamilton won 6-3 on court three.
Alabama snatched the momentum back at the beginning of singles, when Kallberg had to retire at No. 4 singles up 2-1 against Nikko Madregallejo.
Despite an impressive effort form Stefan Lindmark at No. 2 singles, Alabama was able to capture wins at No. 5, 1 and 3 singles to close out the Rebels.
Lindmark dominated the Crimson Tide's Danny Kerznerman 6-1, 6-0 to improve to 14-8 overall, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. He's 8-2 in his last 10 matches.
"We had the momentum on our side after doubles, but when William retired, they (Alabama) rallied around that and played better than we did at certain spots," head coach Toby Hansson said. "We have to put it behind us and move on and get ready for a very good Baylor team on Tuesday."
The Rebels will host No. 5 Baylor Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center, weather permitting. Fans will enjoy free pizza between doubles and singles.
