Rebels Wrap Up Play at SEC Championships

ST. SIMMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- Junior Forrest Gamble carded a 1-over 71 Sunday and finished 2-under par, as Ole Miss posted its best finish since 2012 at the SEC Championships at the Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simmons Island, Georgia.

Gamble posted a 1-over 71 in the final round on the 7,005 yard, par-70 course that has hosted the SEC Championships every year since 2001. The junior finished the tournament tied for 11th at 2-under, his best finish of the season. Ole Miss finished ninth on the team leaderboard at 9-over par, an improvement of five spots over last year's finish and posted its best finish at the SEC Championships since a sixth place finish in 2012.

The Rebels now await aa expected bid in the NCAA Championships, which begin May 15. The tournament field is announced May 4 at 9 a.m. on the Golf Channel. Ole Miss last advanced to the NCAA Championships in 2011.

"I am extremely proud of our guys for their performance over the last couple of days," said Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy. "We didn't have the greatest first round, but they showed so much heart and gutted out two good rounds. We talk all the time about changing the culture of this program. They did that this week and showed me that they are ready to take the next step toward winning conference and national championships. Forrest really played well and gave himself a chance to win. This week will be great for his confidence going into the NCAA Championships."

Senior Blake Morris fired an even-par 70 Sunday and finished the championships at 3-over and tied for 31st. Freshman Josh Seiple also fired an even-par 70 in the final round to finish at 4-over in a tie for 36th with sophomore Ben Wolcott, who carded a 2-over 72 Sunday to finish the tournament at 4-over. Sophomore Noah West turned a 2-over 72 in the final round to finish in a tie for 64th.

LSU captured the team title at and South Carolina' Matthew NeSmith won individual medalist honors at -14.
