Rebels Shut out Tennessee 4-0

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 26 Ole Miss women's tennis team won the doubles point and picked up three straight set wins in singles to shut out Tennessee 4-0 Sunday at the Barksdale Tennis Stadium.
Senior Julia Jones came one step closer to joining the elite 100-club, picking up her 99th career win, with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Joanna Henderson at No. 1 singles to clinch the Rebels' third shutout in SEC play and second straight win against the Lady Vols.
Playing their fourth straight match without freshman standout Arianne Hartono and looking to snap a five-match losing streak, the Rebels spoiled Senior Day for Tennessee by getting off to a solid start in doubles. The Rebels grabbed the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Erin Stephens and Mai El Kamash won 8-5 at No. 2, and then Iris Verboven and Marija Milutinovic posted an 8-4 win at No. 3 to clinch the point. The Rebels also led the No. 1 match 6-2.
Milutinovic made quick work of Tiffany Tavares at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1, to give Ole Miss a 2-0 lead. Stephens set up Jones, downing Laurence Guevremont 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4.
"We are extremely excited to get a road win against a very talented Tennessee team," head coach Mark Beyers said. "Today was a total team effort, with us winning the doubles point and then winning three singles matches in straight sets. Tennessee had won three SEC matches in a row and came into this match with a lot of confidence, so to beat them 4-0 in Knoxville is an impressive feat."
The Rebels (12-9, 4-8) host Arkansas-Pine Bluff Monday at Noon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center, weather permitting.Â
Jones will seek to become the seventh player in program history to record 100 wins in her career.
