5/16/2015 | Men's Golf
RANCHO SANTA FE, Ca. -- Senior Blake Morris fired 1-over par 73 Saturday to finish 2-under par and in a tie for seventh at the NCAA Golf Championships at The Farm Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, California.
The Waterbury, Connecticut native carded three birdies in his final round and finished the tournament with a three-round total of 2-under par 214. Morris finished one shot behind Gudmundur Kristjansson, of East Tennessee State, who was the lowest individual not among the top five teams in the regional and advances to the NCAA Championship round.
"Blake had a great tournament and went out like a true champion," said Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy. "He has meant so much to this program. I am extremely happy that he played the way that he did."
After posting a tough opening round of 314 Thursday, the Rebels bounced back with two of the top 15 rounds in the regional with a team score of 287 Friday and 290 Saturday. Ole Miss finished 12th on the team leaderboard with a three-day total of 891.
Sophomore Ben Wolcott carded a final round of 1-under par 71 and finished in a tie for 36th with a three-round total of 223. Freshman Josh Seiple finished in a tie for 42nd with a three-round total of 224 after a final round of 75 Saturday. Junior Forrest Gamble fired a 1-under par 71 in the final round and finished tied for 71st. Sophomore Noah West finished in 75th after posting a 78 in the final round.
"I am proud of the way that these guys hung in there over the last two rounds and how they responded today after a rough day yesterday," said Malloy. "This week has been a great learning experience for our guys. They learned that our bad rounds of golf just can't be as bad as our first round this week. We played well enough to advance over the last two days, but we dug ourselves too big of a hole to get out of."
