5/19/2015 | Women's Tennis
WACO, Texas -- The awards keep coming in for Ole Miss women's tennis senior Julia Jones. The St. Petersburg, Florida native received the ITA National Most Improved Player of the Year Award Tuesday at the ITA Awards luncheon, held in conjunction with the NCAA Championships.
This award goes to a senior who has improved the most during their career. Last week, Jones earned the ITA Southern Region Senior of the Year Award.
"Julia is very deserving of this latest award," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We've watched her become one of the top players in the nation through dedication and hard work. It's great to see her be recognized for all the work she's put in to get to this point in her career. We are excited for her to continue her season tomorrow with the NCAA singles, and hopefully she can go out on a high note."
Jones became the seventh Rebel to join the 100-club in singles and earned All-SEC first team honors. After finishing the 2014 season ranked No. 100 in singles, Jones is currently ranked No. 10 in the nation and is seeded 9-16 in the upcoming NCAA Singles Championships. At 29-10, Jones is seeking to become the 10th Rebel to record 30 wins in a season. Â
The quest for 30 begins Wednesday with a match-up against Arizona State's Desirae Krawczyk at 9 a.m.
