CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- The Ole Miss women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker, 4-3, to No. 12 Miami in the second round of the NCAA Championships at Neil Schiff Center on Saturday. Ole Miss closed the season with a 16-11 overall record and reached the NCAA second round for the second straight season.

"Even though we came up just short today, I couldn't be more proud of this group, said head coach Mark Beyers." They played their hearts out all day and pushed a really good Miami team to the brink. It came down to a couple of points here and there. If Julia finds a way to win the second set, the momentum would have definitely switched in our favor."

For the second consecutive match the Rebels won the doubles point, taking wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The 65th ranked tandem of Julia Jones and Natalie Suk defeated Sinead Lohan/Stephanie Wagner, 8-4, while Mai El Kamash and Erin Stephens also picked up an 8-4 win over Monique Albuquerque and Silvia Fuentes.

Holding the early advantage in the match, the Rebels found themselves in a battle during the singles matches, and the host team took a 2-1 lead with a pair of straight sets wins at No. 2 singles and No. 6 singles as Sinead Lohan, ranked No. 37, downed No. 82 Arianne Hartono, 6-1, 6-3, and Monique Albuquerque defeated Iris Verboven, 6-4, 6-1.

The Rebels leveled the match with a straight set 6-3, 6-3 win from Suk over No. 115 Lina Lileikite at No. 4, but the score would not remain tied for long though, as No. 108 Wendy Zhang took her match 6-2, 6-3 over Stephens at court five.

Ole Miss battled back again to tie the score as El Kamash posted a 6-4, 6-3 win against Silvia Fuentes at No. 3 singles to make it 3-3, putting the match on the line at No. 1 singles between 10th-ranked Jones and 11th-ranked Stephanie Wagner.

Wagner won the first set, 6-1, but trailed Jones 5-3 in the second set before winning the final four games to clinch the match with a 6-1, 7-5 win.
