OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss men's tennis alum Tucker Vorster played a big role in helping his country, South Africa, shut out Ireland 5-0 in Davis Cup Group 2 play this past weekend.

South Africa needed a win to remain in Davis Cup Euro/Africa Zone 2 for 2016, as they continue their quest to move up to Group I.

Vorster aided in the cause with two wins in singles, playing in front of family and friends at the Irene Country Club just outside his hometown of Pretoria.

On Friday, Vorster defeated Ireland's Sam Barry 6-1, 6-7(4), 7-6(5), 6-4 to give South Africa a 2-0 lead. They would clinch the tie with a doubles win on Saturday. Vorster capped the weekend with an impressive 6-1, 7-5 win against Ireland's Jordan McGee, ATP World ranked No. 150, in just a little more than an hour.

"It was a much more relaxed day for me knowing that we had won the tie already, but I knew that I had lots of friends and family watching so I had to give it my all," said Vorster.

In Monday's ATP World Rankings, Vorster is up to a career-high 327.
