Matt Mott Weekly Press Conference
10/17/2016 | Soccer
Ole Miss Soccer Head Coach Matthew Mott met with members of the media on Monday as part of his weekly press conference. Coach Mott recapped Friday's win over Texas A&M, and previewed this week's action on the road at Georgia (Thursday) and at Vanderbilt (Sunday).
Opening Statement...
"We had senior night last Friday where we recognized six great seniors. I call them the perfect class; they've done really well in the classroom, performed really well on the field, and have been great socially and we've never had any issues with them. It (Friday) was a great game, 0-0 at halftime and I thought we played really well in the first half. In the second half, Texas A&M scored a good goal, then with 16 minutes left, Bella Fiorenzo had a free kick, then five minutes later Kizer had a great goal to give us the lead. It was certainly a good win for us, a very important win for us. We're eighth (in the SEC standings), and they take the top 10. We're one point out of sixth so it's really tight. We go to Georgia (Thursday), a very good team. They've struggled a bit on paper, but as far as us knowing who they are, the type players they have, it'll be a difficult test. Sunday we head over to Nashville to play Vanderbilt, who is just ahead of us in the seedings. They are very well coached, a good team with good players. Our team is excited for the road trip, there's part of them that really like to be on the road with each other and some great competition for sure."
On Liza Harbin's play...
"Liza Harbin has been great for us on the back line. We moved her back there after the Arkansas game and she's kind of been in and out at outside back and some midfield. She's a really tough kid and probably our best all-around athlete. She jumps higher than everybody, she's fast, good with the ball, and she's a winner. She's been dealing with a hamstring strain and doing everything she can rehab wise. When she shows up, she's a winner, she's a gamer and she gives you everything she has. She's been really important to lock down the left side of the other teams playing at right back. Her and Madison Meador do a really good job. I think she's kind of teaching Madison a lot on how to play the role. She's a junior, and has been here a while and we rely on her to get forward and defend."
