Matt Mott Weekly Press Conference
10/24/2016 | Soccer
Ole Miss Soccer Head Coach Matthew Mott met with members of the media on Monday as part of his weekly press conference. Coach Mott recapped last week's play, and previewed Thursday's match at No. 2 South Carolina (7 p.m. ET, SEC Network).
Opening Statement...
"It was a pretty bittersweet weekend for us I think. We lost at Georgia on Thursday night and then turned around and lost to Vanderbilt yesterday. CeCe Kizer took another injury on Thursday night to that ankle, so she was out yesterday for us, which is a hole. The better part is that we qualified for the SEC tournament with one game to play. This league is so difficult. Game in and game out, there are four really good teams that aren't going to the tournament. So we feel very unfortunate that we are in the field with one game left. We head to South Carolina, who is maybe having one of the best seasons in the history of SEC soccer. They are undefeated and giving up next to no goals. They have some really great players, so we have to go down there in our third game of a three-game road trip to finish up the season. We are excited for a chance against a very good South Carolina team. Our team will be very hungry and motivated for the game. Then we will get on a bus and head down to Orange Beach for the conference tournament. We don't know who we are playing and we don't know what time, so that shows how close this league is when you are talking about teams like Kentucky, LSU, Georgia and Mississippi State not making the tournament. It is a really difficult league, and everyone is battling the whole time. We are excited that we are in postseason, and this team is certainly capable of making a deep run in the tournament. That is what our goal is."
