PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii - Rebel sophomore Braden Thornberry fired a 7-under 65 to help the Ole Miss men's golf extended its lead in the second round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational Monday.

Thornberry carded six birdies and posted an eagle on the 540 yard, par-5 No. 5 at Makai Golf Club to drop to 8-under on the tournament. The Olive Branch, Mississippi native trails leader Hayden Buckley of Missouri by just two strokes with 18 holes left to play.

"Braden really had a special day out there," said Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy. "His 65 was very impressive."

Ole Miss posted a tournament-low second round score of 12-under 276 and extended its lead over second-place No. 24 Missouri by 13 strokes heading into the final round. The Rebels are looking for their third win of the fall season, which would be half way to the school record of six victories posted by the 1983-84 squad.

"I am so proud of the guys for fighting through the day once again," said Malloy. "We faced some challenges in the middle of our round today that I thought we did a great job of staying positive and aggressive. We want to take it one round at a time and we have had the low round of the day the first two days. That's pretty impressive. I know that they are excited to get out and do the same thing tomorrow."

Senior Ben Wolcott carded three birdies and limited his second round to one bogey to finished the day in a tie for ninth. Senior Noah West posted two birdies on his final two holes to drop to 6-under on the tournament and finished in tie for sixth overall. Sophomore Josh Seiple negated a double-bogey and triple-bogey on seven and eight with six birdies on the day to finish 1-over 73. The Castle Rock, Colorado native is tied for 15th place headed into the final round. Junior Kerry Sweeney fired a 1-under par 71 with four birdies and sits in a tie for 32nd place headed into the final round. Sophomore Beau Briggs is tied for 37th overall and first among individual competitors after posting a 1-over 73 in the second round.

The Rebels tee off the third and final round tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. CST. Fans can follow live stats by downloading the Ole Miss Athletics mobile app or at the Golfstat website.
