OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss men's tennis bolstered its future with the addition of the No. 1 player in Louisiana, Cotter Wilson, head coach Toby Hansson announced Friday. A five-star recruit, Wilson has been ranked as high as No. 36 this year by TennisRecruiting.net.
"We are very excited to welcome Cotter to Ole Miss and our program," Hansson said. "Cotter is a great student and it carries over to the court, where he is eager to learn and improve. With his strong work ethic and good technical foundation there is no doubt that Cotter's best tennis lies ahead. We look forward to working together with Cotter to help him maximize this opportunity and grow both on and off the court."
A two-time Louisiana State Player of the Year, Wilson reached the semifinals of singles and won the doubles in the ITF Grade 4 Jalisco Jr. Cup in Jalisco, Mexico in February.
In addition, Wilson ranked as high as No. 6 in the southern section this year and played No. 1 singles for the Southern Intersectional team in 2015 and No. 1 for the Louisiana Southern Cup team in 2014, 2015, and 2016.
Wilson comes from an athletic family, as his mother played tennis at SMU and at Centenary College, where she won a national championship and is in the Northwest Louisiana Hall of Fame. His dad played tennis at LSU.
The Rebels recently wrapped up the fall season and open the spring campaign Jan. 9-11 at the Rainbow Warrior Invitational in Hawaii.
