Gamble Leads Rebels In Cabo

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico - Senior Forrest Gamble fired an even-par 71 to lead the Ole Miss men's golf team in the opening round of theQuerencia Cabo Collegiate Sunday.
The Birmingham, Alabama native carded four birdies in the first round at the 6,938-yard Querencia Country Club and finished the day in a tie for 25th overall. As a team, the Rebels fired an 8-over 292 and are tied for 10th with No. 31 Houston. Ole Miss finished the round two shots ahead of No. 2 Wake Forest and No. 15 Vanderbilt, and three shots clear of No. 18 LSU.
Junior Ben Wolcott and Freshman Braden Thornberry each fired a 1-over 72 in the opening round and are tied for 37th. Thornberry tallied three birdies, while Wolcott carded four, including back-to-back birdies at No. 4 and 5. Senior Connor Davis finished the first round tied for 59th with a 6-over 77, while junior Noah West is tied for 65th after an opening round 78.
"We had three guys that went out there and competed well," said Rebel head coach Chris Malloy. "We just need to have that fourth guy. Each of these guys are playing good enough golf to lead us at any point. I am very confident that we have our best two days of golf in front of us."
