ATHENS, Ga. - The Ole Miss women's golf team traveled to the University of Georgia Golf Course Saturday to compete in the 2016 Lady Bulldog Individual tournament prior to beginning tournament play Feb. 22 in Long Beach, California.

"It was a tough, cold day at UGA and some of our scores showed it," head coach Kory Henkes said. "We have a lot of work to do before our first team event in a few weeks."

Senior Alison Hovatter (Merdianville, Alabama) was tied for first at the end of the day after shooting a 3-over par 69-78-147 through 36-holes. Hovatter fell to Georgia's Rinko Mitsunga on the par-5 ninth hole in a playoff.

"We are so proud of Alison," Henkes noted. "She played great and unfortunately lost in a playoff to a top-ranked player. She works harder than any player I have ever coached and her hard work is starting to pay off."

Hovatter's finish is the best of her Ole Miss career, her previous best being a second place tie at the Samford Intercollegiate last season. Ole Miss won that tournament, with former Rebel Stani Schiavone earning medalist honors.

"It is very disappointing that I didn't get the job done this week," Hovatter said. "I love being in those kind of positions because it's what I work for."

"I can't wait to get back to work this upcoming week," Hovatter added. "I want to put myself back in that position because I know there will be a different outcome next time."

Other Rebels in the top-10 included senior Katie Voll (Alpharetta, Ga.) and freshman Martina Flori (Montecatini Terme, Italy) who finished in fifth and 10th place, respectively. Voll shot a 75-77-152, while Flori finished with a 79-77-156.

The Rebels first team event is the Gold Rush Tournament hosted by Long Beach State beginning February 22 at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, California.
