Rebels Best Five Ranked Opponents In Mexico

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico - Freshman Braden Thornberry posted a top-20 finish to help the Ole Miss men's golf team to an 8th-place finish in a loaded field at Querencia Cabo Collegiate Tuesday.
The Rebels posted a team score of 297 on the day en route to a three-round total of 871 at the 6,928-yard Querencia Golf Club. Ole Miss finished ahead of five ranked opponents, including No. 2 Wake Forest, No. 18 LSU and No. 28 Arkansas. No. 11 Georgia won the tournament with a team score of 834.
"This week was a step in the right direction for our team, said Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy. "We competed against the best teams in the country and held our own. Hopefully these guys see that they can compete with anyone and use that as confidence going forward."
Thornberry carded a 3-over 74 Tuesday to finish tied for 18th, giving him his third top-20 finish of the season, and tallied a total of ten birdies through 54 holes. Junior Noah West led the Rebels in the third round with a 1-over 72, his best round of the tournament. West birdied the 294 yard par-4 No. 7 and finished tied for 60th overall.
Junior Ben Wolcott and senior Forrest Gamble each posted a 5-over 76 in the third round. Wolcott carded a team-high four birdies on the day, including back-to-back at No. 17 and 18 to finish tied for 28th place. His 12 birdies though three rounds was also a team high. Gamble finished in a tie for 34th, while fellow senior Connor Davis turned in a 4-over 75 Tuesday to finish tied for 54th.
