TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Freshman Braden Thornberry clinched his second career top-five finish to lead the Rebels to a season-best score of 4-under 860 at the Seminole Intercollegiate Saturday.

Ole Miss posted back-to-back rounds of 281 and 288 Saturday to finish in a tie for seventh. No. 3 Auburn edged host No. 4 Florida State by two strokes to claim the tournament title. The second and third rounds were played Saturday due to expect inclement weather Sunday.

"Overall we had a good day and fought hard to get ourselves back in contention," said Rebel head coach Chris Malloy. "Unfortunately, we didn't capitalize on some birdie opportunities on the way in. I still believe this week was a step in the right direction and that our best golf is ahead of us this season."

Thornberry fired a 5-under 67 in the first round of the day, including five birdies and no bogies, to post his lowest round of the season and the lowest score of the second round at Southwood Golf Course. The Olive Branch, Mississippi native carded an even-par 72 in the afternoon in the final round.

"Braden really hung tough this week and almost came away with a win," Malloy said. "He is getting better by the week and he will break through soon enough."

Junior Noah West fired a season-low three round score of 2-under 214 during the two-day event. West posted a 2-under 70 in the final round, including five birdies, to finish tied for 13th. Ben Wolcott tied his season-low score of 68 in the second round to finish tied for 25th, while senior Forrest Gamble turned in a 1-under 71 in the second round and finished in a tie for 51st with a 6-over 222. Freshman Beau Briggs posted a final round score of 1-over 73 and finished 70th overall.

The Rebels travel next to Boca Raton, Florida for the FAU Intercollegiate March 25-27.
