Rebels Fall to No. 16 Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. â€" Sophomore Arianne Hartono won her 10th match at No. 1 singles, but the Ole Miss women's tennis team suffered a 4-1 loss at No. 16 Auburn Saturday indoors at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Zalina Khairudinova and Marija Milutinovic won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles, but Auburn took the No. 1 match 6-3 and then claimed the No. 2 match 6-4 for the early 1-0 lead.
The Tigers added to their lead with straight set wins on courts five against Milutinovic and two versus Mai El Kamash.
Hartono, ranked No. 37, downed 46th-ranked Alizee Michaud 6-2, 6-3 on court one, but Auburn's 77th-ranked Pleun Burgmans closed out freshman Tea Jandric at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3 for the win.
Freshman Allie Sanford, who clinched the win against Alabama Thursday night, won her first set 7-6 moments before Auburn clinched.
Notables…
• The Rebels are now 9-6 overall and 2-6 in the SEC.
• Arianne Hartono improved to 17-8 overall and 10-2 at No. 1 singles. She is now 4-2 in the SEC. Hartono also earned her sixth ranked win of the year.
• Zalina Khairudinova and Marija Milutinovic improved to 5-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Next up…
Ole Miss returns home to host Kentucky March 31 at 3 p.m., followed by Vanderbilt April 2 at 1 p.m. They will celebrate Senior Day against the Commodores.

"It was pretty disappointing today. Auburn was able to win a close doubles point and carried that momentum into singles. We were unable to turn any of those matches around. Credit to Auburn, they were the better team today."
