Davis Leads Rebels In Second Round Of SEC Championships

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. â€" Senior Connor Davis lead carded a 2-over 72 to lead the Ole Miss men's golf team in the second round of the SEC Championship at the Sea Island Golf Club Saturday.
Davis notched a birdie on the 565-yard par 5 No. 15 and added another birdie on No. 2 to finish the second round with a team-low score of 2-over par 72. Davis will compete in his final round as a college golfer tomorrow morning.
"It was good to see Connor play well today in his last SEC Championship," said head coach Chris Malloy. "Overall, it was a poor day for our team. We just had too many bogies from the middle of the fairway with a wedge in our hands. Tomorrow is a new day and I look for these guys to respond."
Freshman Braden Thornberry and Junior Ben Wolcott each posted scores of 6-over 76 in the second round Saturday. Thornberry carded two birdies on the back nine to finish the day in a tie for 28th headed into tomorrow's final round. Wolcott birdied the 409-yard par 4 No. 5 to move to a tie for 47th place overall.
Junior Noah West also posted two birdies in the second round to bring his tournament score to 152 and is tied for 66th. Senior Forrest Gamble post an 8-over 78 and also enters the final round tied for 66th.
Ole Miss post a team score of 298 in the second round to bring their total to 599. The Rebels remain in 13th on the team leaderboard, three strokes clear of Mississippi State. Kentucky leads the field with a score of 566 and is two strokes ahead of second-place Georgia.
