Thornberry Qualifies for U.S. Amateur

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss sophomore Braden Thornberry qualified for the U.S. Amateur at the Tupelo Country Club at Belden, Mississippi Thursday.
Thornberry finished in a tie for first, posting a score of 10-under par 135 through three rounds. The sophomore was one of two in a field of 67 to qualify for the U.S. Amateur held at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan August 15-21. Thornberry will compete in a field of 312 amateur golfers in a match-style tournament. The 2015 Champion is Bryson DeChambeau, an SMU grad. Other notable U.S. Amateur Champions are Arnold Palmer (1954), Jack Nicklaus (1959, 1961), Phil Mickelson (1990), Tiger Woods (1994-96), and Matt Kuchar (1997).
