Thornberry Set To Compete In U.S. Amateur

OXFORD, Miss.- Ole Miss sophomore Braden Thornberry will compete in the 116th U.S. Amateur Golf Championships held August 15, 2016 at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
Thornberry will tee off at 2:45 p.m. CST at the 7,445 yard par-72 South Course. The South Course has been the site of 16 Major Championships, including six U.S. Opens, two U.S. Senior Opens, the U.S. Women's amateur and the Ryder Cup. Six rounds of match play will begin Wednesday, August 17 and be broadcast on Fox Sports 1. Championship Match coverage will begin at 2:00p.m. CST on FOX.
Thornberry, a Southaven, Mississippi native, was the Rebels' top finisher in six of eleven tournaments as a freshman last year. He led the team with a 72.24 stroke average and finished in the top-five three times, including two first-place finishes at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite and the Old Waverley Invitational. This is the second-straight year Thornberry has qualified for the U.S. Amateur.
