Soccer Drops Tight Match to South Alabama

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss soccer battled South Alabama tough for the full 90 minutes, but an early score in the ninth minute by the Jaguars was the difference in non-conference play Sunday night at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
The Rebels (4-4-0) had their chances posting 13 shots with five on goal, but couldn't quite find the rhythm as the Jaguars (5-2-1) won for the first time ever in Oxford.
A goal from Ashlynn Jones at the 9:26 mark was the only score of the match as she found the net off an Alexis Jordan assist on a score from the far post. The Jaguars finished the game with nine shots for five on goal and four corners.
Ole Miss goalkeeper Marnie Merritt posted four saves on the night including three in the first half. CeCe Kizer had the most looks of any Rebel with three shots, two of which on target, while Gretchen Harknett and Addie Forbus also posted two shots each.
Senior Mackenze Parma got the start at midfielder for the first time this season, while Courtney Carroll also started at midfield.
Following seven of the first eight matches on the road, the Rebels hit the road in back-to-back games for the first time next weekend with matches at LSU (Friday, Sept. 16) and at Tulsa (Sept. 18).
