CLAREMONT, Calif. â€" Earlier in the day Tuesday, Ole Miss men's tennis junior Gustav Hansson learned he would begin the collegiate season ranked No. 19 in the nation as the ITA announced the preseason individual rankings. Hansson then took the court for his first round match of the Claremont Futures and ended the day victorious in three sets.

After winning a tight first set 7-5 against Iran's Shahin Khaledan, Hansson dropped the second set 6-3. In the third set, Hansson gained a break for 3-2 and held serve to go up 4-2. He won the final two games for 6-2 to cap his fifth straight win in California.

Hansson will face the winner of the Florent Diep/Sebastian Fanselow match in the second round Thursday.

A returning All-American, Hansson is one of seven players from the SEC in the preseason top 25. He reached the round of 16 at the NCAA Championships last year and also earned All-SEC first team honors.

In the doubles rankings, junior Zvonimir Babic and sophomore Filip Kraljevic earned a ranking of No. 6. That is the highest ranking by an Ole Miss duo since All-Americans Nik Scholtz and Jonas Lutjen ended the 2013 season ranked No. 4 in the nation.
