Trio of Rebels Earn Top Preseason Rankings

OXFORD, Miss. - Next weekend the fall collegiate season starts for the Ole Miss men's tennis team. On Tuesday, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released the preseason singles and doubles rankings as well as the All American Championship selections.

The Rebels are led in the rankings by junior All-American and two-time All SEC selection Gustav Hansson, who is ranked No. 18 in singles after an outstanding sophomore year. The Karlskrona, Sweden native, finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 27-10 and had the second best record in the SEC at 9-3. After finishing the 2016 season ranked No. 25 in doubles, Filip Kraljevic and Zvonimir Babic earned a No. 6 preseason ranking on Tuesday. Last year they had 11 doubles wins, including three against top-10 opponents. The pair are the first Ole Miss duo to be ranked inside the top 10 since All-Americans Nik Scholtz and Jonas Lutjen ended the 2013 season ranked No. 4.
ITA All-American selections
All eight Rebels will compete in the Saint Francis ITA All-American Championships, the year's first major, which takes place Oct. 1-10 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Gustav Hansson received a main draw bid, while Zvonimir Babic and Filip Kraljevic earned qualifying bids in singles. Fabian Fallert, Ricardo Jorge, Grey Hamilton, Robert Mounger and Tim Sandkaulen will all begin play in the prequalifying tournament. In doubles, Babic and Kraljevic earned a main draw bid, while Hansson and Sandkaulen will begin play in the qualifying tournament.
Fall season kicks off next weekend
While Gustav Hansson is in Claremont, California for the Claremont Futures tournament, the Rebels will begin collegiate competition next weekend with some going to the Cajun Classic in Lafayette, Louisiana and others participating in the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Georgia.
