Ole Miss Travels to South Carolina for Lady Paladin
9/22/2016 | Women's Golf
This weekend, the Ole Miss women's golf team hits the links for its second tournament of the 2016-17 season at the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, South Carolina.
Hosted by Furman University, the Lady Paladin will be a homecoming of sorts for head coach Kory Henkes. A native of Easley, South Carolina, Henkes provides a wealth of knowledge of the Furman University Golf Course and is eager to see her team compete this weekend.
"We're looking forward to it. I really think we can compete there. I think it's going to be a great course for us," Henkes said. "I've played there a bunch, (assistant coach Drew Belt) has played there several times, Katy Harris has played there. I think we have a good local knowledge of getting around the course and making good decisions."
After Thursday's practice round, the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins Friday at 8 a.m. CT. Ole Miss is in the first group to tee off, along with host Furman, Texas and Augusta. Senior Madisen Bentley will get it started for the Rebels from the first hole, followed by junior Laura Hoskin, Harris, senior Maria Toennessen and freshman Pi-Lillebi Hermansson. Sophomore Kie Purdom, who will compete as an individual for the Rebels, tees off at 10:30 a.m. CT.

About the Course
Ole Miss will step to the tee box at Furman with confidence as they take on a course with a familiar feel. Last renovated in 2008, the Greenville course features firm greens and wide open fairways, not unlike the Rebels' home course.
"Furman is very similar to the Ole Miss Golf Course," Henkes said. "We have several players who play well out here, and I think it's just going to fit their eye well. It's wide open with firm greens and that's what they're used to playing. So we like to think that's an advantage for us, and it's something that we can capitalize on."

Rebel Spotlight
Purdom will make her first appearance of the season in the individual spot for the Rebels. The Lexington, Kentucky native saw action in four tournaments as a freshman and has worked her way into a playing opportunity this weekend.
"Kie has been playing really well, so we're proud of her," Henkes said. "She's been working really hard and I think it's really starting to pay off for her. She's putting in the time and asking for help on her off days. That's what it's all about."
