OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss rifle team traveled to Palmyra, Pennsylvania Saturday to face No. 15 Navy at the 18th Annual Palmyra Invitational. The Rebels fell to the Mids in a close loss 4640-4633, but despite the seven-point aggregate difference, this marks the highest score shot against Navy in school history.
Recapping the Match
Sophomore Harley Gardner led the Rebels in smallbore as she posted a 572 score to contribute to the teams overall 2280. This marks the same score she recorded last weekend against NC State. Freshman Hayley Carroll followed just one point behind Gardner shooting a 571, just one point away from her career high in smallbore and one point away from her aggregate high this season. Gardner too led the Rebels in air rifle as she posted a 591 for the third time this season, just one point away from her career high. "We have lost several matches this season by eight points or less, which is just one point per team member per event. Our air rifle has been going fairly well, but we continue to come up short in smallbore," Beasley said. "I know we are working hard on smallbore and trying to bring up personal bests. Hayley (Carroll) did post a personal best in kneeling and we had two that were one point off their career highs."

The Rebels will travel to Lexington, Kentucky to face No. 16 Akron on Feb. 4 at 8 a.m. CT. Akron participated in the Palmyra Invitational last weekend as well, but was not a direct match up for the Rebels.
