Rebels Still Alive at ITA Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La. â€" Day three of the ITA Southern Regionals concluded Saturday with the Ole Miss men's tennis team having one player reach the singles quarterfinals, and two doubles teams advance to the semifinals at the LSU Tennis Complex.
Sandkaulen reaches singles quarterfinals…
Sophomore Tim Sandkaulen remained undefeated on the season (7-0) with two wins on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals of singles. In the second round, he downed Elio Lago of Louisiana 6-3, 6-1. In the third round, Sandkaulen dropped the first set to LSU's Rafael Wagner 7-5, but grabbed the second set 6-2. Wagner then retired handing Sandkaulen the match. A challenge awaits Sandkaulen in the quarterfinals, as he will face the No. 1 seed and 13th-ranked Constantin Schmitz (Tulane) at 9 a.m. Sunday.
Fabian Fallert also reached the third round with a straight set win against LSU's Nikola Samardzic, before falling in in the round of 16 to Tulane's Tyler Schick.
Doubles times two…
Both of Ole Miss' doubles teams won convincingly Saturday to advance to the third round. Tim Sandkaulen and Fabian Fallert shut out Chase Schupp and Eric Wagner of Tulane 8-0. They will face Jamie Fraser and Arthur Libaud of Louisiana Sunday at 1 p.m. Back together for the first time in a year, the Croatian duo of Zvonimir Babic and Filip Kraljevic downed Ignacio Rodriguez and Chris Tasker of Troy 8-2. They will meet Olivier Gingras and Lucas Gonzales of South Alabama in the third round.
