Rifle to Host Army West Point

OXFORD, Miss. - Start your Saturday with Ole Miss rifle as the No. 12 Rebels battle No. 10 Army West Point in the home opener. The match will start at 9 a.m., at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center located off Highway 7 and Sisk Avenue.

Last time out…
In their season opener, the Rebels defeated No.9 ranked North Carolina State 4661-4650 at the NCAA Test Match hosted by the Citadel.
Ole Miss posted a 2314 in smallbore with a 2347 air rifle score for a combined 4661. This score is six points higher than the top score the Rebels shot last season (4655) and just three points under the school record of 4664 shot at the NCAA Sectional in 2006.
Notable Returnees…
The Rebels are led by junior Harley Gardner (Bellville, Texas) and senior Jessica Haig (Constableville, New York). Gardner posted a 591 in air rifle and a 581 in smallbore to lead the Rebels against NC State. Haig shot a 590 in air rifle and a 579 in smallbore in the win over NC State.
Fresh Faces…
The 2017-18 team features seven newcomers, including Kamilla Kisch and Emily Cock, who made their debut in the NCAA Test Match at The Citadel. Cock fired a 584 and Kisch a 582 in air rifle.
Looking at Army West Point…
Army West Point finished fifth at the GARC Championships last year. The Black Knights are led by junior Nathan Brewer, who competed in the NCAA Championships last year and shot a 587 to finish 29th.
Marsha's Minute…
"We performed well in our opener at the Citadel two weeks ago, and I believe we can build from that," said head coach Marsha Beasley. On the other hand, it is very early, and I have learned over the years that early season often has unexpected ups and downs. The team has been working hard and if they focus on the process and execute the skills they have been working on, they should do well."
