OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss soccer juniors Ella Johnson and CeCe Kizer were recognized Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for their success both on the field and in the classroom. The pair earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the first time in their careers.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at her current institution and be nominated by her sports information director.
Johnson and Kizer took up two of the spots on the District 6 list and now will be eligible for Academic All-America status.
Kizer has proven to be one of the most dangerous offensive players not only in the SEC but across the nation, ranking third in the country in goals with 16 on the year. In addition to her 16 goals tally, Kizer also ranks second on the team with seven assists for 39 total points. Those numbers earned the former conference freshman of the year First Team All-SEC honors. The Overland Park, Kansas native has earned a 3.36 GPA in pursuit of her degree in general studies.
Johnson, is in her first season at Ole Miss after transferring from Brigham Young University. Upon arriving in Oxford, It didn't take long for the redshirt-junior to assimilate and become a key cog in the Rebel back line. In addition to providing a steady center back to an Ole Miss defense that has surrendered just 16 goals, the native Utahn has also provided a bit of offense with a goal and an assist in her 18 starts. Johnson has accrued a perfect 4.00 GPA and is pursuing a degree in psychology.
