Rebels Sixth With Play Suspended in Round 2

SEAL BEACH, Calif. - The Ole Miss women's golf team sits in sixth place at The Gold Rush at Old Ranch Country Club, where play was suspended late in the second round due to darkness.
The Rebels closed the first round in fifth place after turning in a 10-over par 298. They're 11-over with Round 2 nearly completed. After a long day in chilly, rainy conditions, head coach Kory Henkes came away proud of the way the team performed.
"We saw a lot of fight in today's play," Henkes said. "It was a rainy, cold day, but the team fought hard all day. We saw positive attitudes from everyone, and it was nice to see the team execute the different shots we have been working on in practice this week."
Junior Katy Harris led the way in Round 1 at 2-under (70). She was one of two Rebels to finish all 18 holes in Round 2. The St. Simons Island, Georgia native carded a 5-over (77) and sits in a tie for 10th place.
Sophomore Kie Purdom is tied with Harris in the 10th position on the individual leaderboard. The Lexington, Kentucky, native shot 3-over (75) in Round 1 and is at even par through 16 holes of Round 2 thanks to three straight birdies on holes 15, 16 and 17.
The only other Rebel to have completed all 18 in Round 2 is sophomore Martina Flori. A 3-over (75) in Round 1 and a 2-over (74) in Round 2 have the Montecatini Terme, Italy native in a tie for 21st.
Senior Madisen Bentley is having a strong tournament in the individual slot for Ole Miss. The lone West Coast native (University Place, Washington) on the Rebel roster, Bentley is deadlocked with Harris, Purdom and three other contenders for 10th place, 3-over par after 16 holes in Round 2.
The Rebels will resume play at 9:45 a.m. CT tomorrow. After the conclusion of Round 2, the field will play out the final 18 holes.
