OXFORD, Miss. - Despite capturing the doubles point for the seventh time in 10 matches, the Ole Miss men's tennis team could not dig out of a hole in singles in a 5-2 loss to No. 16 Florida Friday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
The Rebels gained the early momentum on a cold, cloudy day taking doubles wins on courts two and one to clinch the point. After Ricardo Jorge and Zvonimir Babic won 6-2 on court two, 23rd-ranked Fabian Fallert and Grey Hamilton finished off a huge win against No. 4 ranked Alfredo Perez and Johannes Ingildsen 6-3 on court one to send the Rebels into singles up 1-0.
Florida overcame losing the doubles point and won four first sets. In three of those matches, they won in straights sets to take a 3-1 lead. The clincher came from 10th-ranked Perez at No. 1 singles against 39th-ranked Gustav Hansson, 7-5, 6-3.
The lone singles winner of the day for the Rebels belonged to Jorge, who beat 79th-ranked Elliott Orkin 7-6(5), 6-7(1), 10-6.
Fallert was the only other match that went three sets, but he ended up dropping the third set tiebreaker for the final 5-2 score.

Thoughts from head coach Toby Hansson...
"We played well in doubles, and I am pleased with what we are doing there. We got the doubles point against Tennessee as well, so we knew that we had to push the reset button and get back to work in singles. The tough conditions made it slow down the courts quite a bit, and we weren't able to stay disciplined enough out there. A couple of matches got away from us too quickly. If you want to beat the top teams or any team for that matter, you need to be able to stay out there and battle a little longer and not put yourself in a big hole. Three easy matches is too many."
On next match and competing...
"The mindset has to be you go and compete 100 percent, and If we do that, we are a tough team. If we can do that on Saturday, we have a good chance to win."
