Seiple Fourth After Rainy Round Two

Rebels Endure Tough Day at Erin Hills
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – It was a tough day at Erin Hills for Ole Miss Men's Golf. Another day of rainy, windy conditions lasted from the first tee to the last hole during round two of the Marquette Intercollegiate. The Rebels shot a 304 (+16) and sit in fourth place, 13 strokes back of first place Arizona State (287-291—578).
Josh Seiple remains in the top 5 after an even par 72. The senior leads the team in birdies with eight through two rounds and is on track for a career-best finish, currently fourth individually just three shots off the lead. The Castle Rock, Colorado, native battled throughout the day, countering four birdies with four bogeys. After making the turn at 1-over, Seiple birdied three of the first five holes on the back nine to move under par for the day. A bogey at 17 dropped him back to even, but Seiple became one of nine players in the 72-man field to shoot par-of-better in the brutal conditions. He still leads the field in par 3 scoring at 2-under.
Braden Thornberry, tied for 12th, shot a second round 3-over 75. He recorded three birdies, all on par 4's. The senior needs one top-10 finish to become the program leader in that category for a career.
Cecil Wegener also added a 3-over 75 on day two behind a fast start in which he was 1-under through the first four holes. The sophomore is tied for ninth at 1-over heading into the final round.
"Today was all about being tough and handling the wind and rain on a challenging course," said head coach Chris Malloy. "Unfortunately, we weren't prepared to handle these conditions and need to figure out a way to be better prepared and have a great round tomorrow. I know that this group is eager to get back out on this course and show what we got"
