10/17/2018 | Men's Tennis
OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss men's tennis will look to continue their impressive fall, heading to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to compete in the 2018 ITA South Regional, hosted by league-foe Alabama.
Singles qualifying begins Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Alabama Tennis Stadium, spanning all weekend with the singles and doubles title matches to be played Tuesday, Oct. 23. 13 teams will participate, including conference rivals Auburn, Alabama, LSU, and Mississippi State. Qualifying singles will finish on Friday afternoon, as 49 individuals compete for one of eight spots in the 32-player main draw beginning on Saturday.
Rebels' junior Tim Sandkaulen, who ranks 14th in the country, and senior Filip Kraljevic, ranked 52nd, automatically earned a main draw berth while the other seven will battle through the qualifying draw to join them. Sandkaulen carries a two-seed into the draw, while Kraljevic is rated fifth.
In doubles action, all three Ole Miss pairs receive a first-round bye, officially beginning things at Saturday at 9 a.m. Sandkaulen and Kraljevic, who also carry a national ranking as a tandem at No. 37, carry the top seed amongst the squad. The Rebels will pair up sophomore Cotter Wilson with freshman Simon Junk and the rookie duo of Karlo Kranic and Jan Soren Hain. All four will also compete in singles qualifying to begin the tournament.
Senior Fabian Fallert and sophomore Finn Reynolds, who took down two Top 15 duos two weeks ago in the ITA All-American Championships, have already qualified for ITA Nationals later this fall and will not have to compete as a pair, but are still slated to swing individually in singles qualifying. Fallert and Reynolds are ranked No. 43 in the latest ITA release.
Live scoring will not be available.
