Rebel Alum Nic Scholtz To Compete in Davis Cup

LISBON, PORTUGAL -- Former Ole Miss men's tennis three-time All-American Nic Scholtz returns to the court this weekend, competing for his home country of South Africa in the 118th Davis Cup.
The Davis Cup, the premier international team event for men's tennis, is contested annually between teams from competing countries in a knock-out format. South Africa currently trails 2-0 against host nation Portugal and must win to stay alive.
Scholtz played for the Rebels from 2012-2015 as a four-time All-SEC Team selection. He was the first player in program history to be named SEC Freshman of the Year (2012) and SEC Player of the Year (2014). Scholtz appeared in the NCAA Tournament during all four of his campaigns, reaching the Sweet Sixteen in both singles and doubles as a freshman, and the second round in each of his latter three years.
Scholtz battled through a grueling 6-3, 6-2 to Joao Sousa Friday in Lisbon.
Scholtz began competing for RSA in the Davis Cup in 2012, and holds a career record of 5-8. He currently ranks third in the nation.
