Three Rebels in Top-15 Heading into Day Two
SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The Ole Miss women's golf team wrapped up a tough first day at the Cardinal Cup Saturday afternoon.
The rugged conditions turned in high scores from the University of Louisville Golf Club, where a darkness delay disrupted the end of the second round.
"It was a tough day today for the girls, said assistant coach Drew Belt. "The wind was unlike anything they have seen so far in their careers. 45 mph wind is something that Coach Henkes and I can't simulate in Oxford, Mississippi."
"We got off to a bad start, but we fought back. The theme tomorrow is going to be all about bouncing back and believing they are better than today. If there is one thing I do know about this team, it is they love to get the opportunity to move up the leaderboard. We will fight hard and see what happens!"
Ole Miss sits in fifth place as a team with a couple holes left in the second round, which will resume at 10:15 a.m. CT Sunday, with the final round beginning immediately after.
Julia Johnson had the best round of the day for the Rebels, firing a first round even-par 72. The sophomore followed it up with a 5-over 77 in the afternoon and is 13th individually. Johnson leads the team in par-5 scoring, gaining two strokes on the first day.
Ellen Hutchinson-Kay was the biggest mover between rounds one and two, moving 13 spots into the top-15 with an even-par second round so far. The freshman has one hole left in the morning before the final round, going off the tee on the par-4 5th.
With how things stand now, Ole Miss would be paired with players from East Carolina and East Tennessee State in the final round shotgun start.
