McAslan, Stackpole Haul in SEC Player of the Week Honors

Rebel Freshmen Recognized for Outstanding Play in 1-0 Win over No. 7 Vanderbilt
OXFORD, Miss. – One day after leading Ole Miss to a monumental victory over No. 7 ranked and previously unbeaten in SEC play Vanderbilt, Rebel freshmen Morgan McAslan and Haleigh Stackpole have been named the SEC Defensive and Freshman of the Week, respectively.
It is the first time that Ole Miss has received multiple weekly honors from the SEC office on the same day since 2015, when Maddie Friedmann was tabbed the Co-Defensive Player of the Week and Marnie Merritt pulled in Freshman of the Week laurels. The five player of the week selections this season for Ole Miss is tied for the most all-time in a single season.
Stackpole provided the lone goal in the Rebels' upset victory on Senior Night Thursday, whipping a free kick from 23 yards out through the wall and inside the near post in the 12th-minute to push the Rebels in front. Of the freshman's five goals this season, four have been game winners.
After Stackpole gave Ole Miss a lead, McAslan and the Rebel defense went to work to quell a powerful Commodore offense that ranks second in the league in scoring. Making three saves on the night, and countless more important catches in the box to avert danger, the Ontario native became just the third keeper all season to hold Vanderbilt scoreless.
Having earned the No. 5 seed and a first-round bye in the SEC Tournament, Ole Miss prepares for a Tuesday night showdown with Arkansas in Orange Beach, Alabama. The match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted live on the SEC Network.
