Rebels in Third Place After 36 Holes at Jim West Challenge

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Ole Miss women's golf team sits in third place after a 287 and 288 during the first two rounds of the Jim West Challenge on Sunday.

The Rebels' two-round total of 575 is the best start to a tournament this season. The Rebels sit eight shots back of first place TCU (567).

Ole Miss is second in the field in total pars with 120. The Rebels once again gained the most strokes off the par 5s, going 8-under on the first day.

Individually, the Rebels got off to a good start as every player in the lineup either birdied or pared their first hole at the newly-opened Kissing Tree Golf Club.

Pi-Lillebi Hermansson is tied for third after back-to-back 2-under 70s. The junior leads the team in birdies with eight through the first two rounds, where consistent play kept her towards the top of the leaderboard the entire first day.

"The course sets up well for my game and I made a lot of good decisions today," Hermansson said. "To complete 3-out-of-3 tournament rounds under par is one of my biggest goals for this fall. I'm ready to give it all I get for the final round tomorrow."

Julia Johnson joins Hermansson in the top-10 after back-to-back rounds under par. The sophomore leads the team in pars with 25, with 14 coming from round two.

Senior Kie Purdom bounced back after a first round 5-over 77, firing a 71 during the second round, utilizing 11 pars and four birdies in her final 18 holes on Sunday. Sophomore Conner Beth Ball is tied with Purdom and five others in 37th place overall after a two round total of 148. Ball got off to a scorching start, firing a two-under 70 during the first round, before posting a second round 78.

Ellen Hutchinson-Kay, a freshman from Taby, Sweden, wrapped up play for Ole Miss with a first round 76, followed up by a 77 during the second round.

Final round gets underway from the Lonestar State tomorrow morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT. Ole Miss will be paired with Oklahoma and Missouri.
