Tigers Score Late Dagger to Give Ole Miss Second SEC Defeat of the Season

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss battled from behind to come back from an early deficit against the Missouri Tigers. However, after leveling the score in the opening minutes of the second half, the Rebels conceded the game-winner in the closing minutes, falling 2-1 at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.

Ole Miss (8-5-1, 2-2-1 SEC) dominated the first 45 minutes but despite a 9-1 advantage in shots, it was Missouri (5-6-2, 2-2-1 SEC) that hit the break with the lead. Taking the Tigers' lone real chance of the half, Julissa Cisneros scored her first collegiate goal, assisted by Sarah Luebbert and Anna Frick.

The second half started in much the same fashion as the first half and within a couple of minutes, the Rebels had their equalizer. Ole Miss earned a corner in the 47th-minute and Haleigh Stackpole was able to find Ella Frischknecht's head with the delivery, allowing the senior to head in her third goal of the season.

Following the Rebel equalizer, play became much more even, perhaps even tilting the way of the Tigers. Missouri was able to carve out a few chances but each time Marnie Merritt came up big to make the save.

The senior was only able to keep it up for so long, though, and in the 85th-minute the Tigers delivered a crushing blow with a late dagger. It was Cisneros doing the bidding once again, off of feeds by Luebbert and Frick.

The Rebels will look to bounce back quickly on Sunday, hosting Arkansas at 2 p.m. at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.

Kickers
• Ole Miss remains winless against the Tigers since Missouri joined the SEC. The Rebels last defeated Missouri in 2003.
• The Rebels led 9-1 in shots in the first half but Missouri narrowed the gap to a mere 17-16 advantage for Ole Miss after outshooting the Rebels 15-18 in the second half.
• Ella Frischknecht scored for the second time in as many matches. Prior to last Friday's match against Texas A&M, the BYU transfer had scored just twice in her two seasons at Ole Miss.
• Marnie Merritt made six saves in the match, all of which came in the second half.
