TULSA, Okla. -- Ole Miss men's tennis duo Finn Reynolds and Fabian Fallert continue swinging with momentum, winning their fifth consecutive match Friday and advancing to the quarterfinals of the Saint Francis Health Systems ITA All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa.
Reynolds and Fallert, rated 43rd in the country in the ITA Preseason Rankings, defeated BYU's Sean Hill and Jeffery Hsu in an identical 6-4 6-4 decision. Hill and Hsu had previously upset fourth-seeded and nationally ranked Braun/Oradini from Mississippi State to land in the Round of 16 against the Rebels.
"Finn and Fabi", a sophomore and senior, respectively, will face Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro of Virginia Tech, who also landed in the quarters via a 6-4 6-4 score over Asensi/Aguilar (Texas A&M). Korsgaard and Ribeiro carry a No. 12 national ranking into Saturday's match as a 5-8 seed, and will be the third ranked duo Reynolds and Fallert have faced in the Championships. They were triumphant Thursday in the opening round over the 15th-ranked pair, the Saveljic twins from NC State, and will look to pull off their second upset at 3 p.m. Saturday.
In singles action, No. 15 Tim Sandkaulen advances in consolation play after a thrilling 5-7, 7-6(4), 6-2 victory over Guanarteme Nuez Delgado (UT Arlington) Friday. He will face North Carolina freshman Brian Cernoch Saturday in quarterfinals, slated for a 1:30 p.m. first serve.
