Rebels Sign Swedish Standout

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss head women's golf coach Kory Henkes announced on Wednesday the signing of Andrea Lignell to the Rebel golf program.

Lignell will join the Rebels from Gothenburg, Sweden where she attends Kitas Gymnasium.

"We can't wait to have Andrea here in Oxford," assistant coach Drew Belt said. "She is somebody that Coach Henkes and myself identified early on, and we have been impressed with her ever since. She is a highly ranked, well coached individual - fundamentally a very sound golfer.

"Andrea is the kind of golfer you expect to see coming out of the junior program at her home golf club in Sweden. She has a quiet focus about her in high pressure situations that will really help her out in collegiate golf."

Lignell has a very impressive junior golf resume in her home country. In July, Lignell won the Stenson Sunesson Junior Challenge. In September of 2017, she won the Junior Masters Invite.

She was part of the Swedish junior national team that took home bronze at the European Girls Team Championship. In the past year, Andrea averaged 74.19 strokes during nine amateur events, including a top-10 at the prestigious Annika Invitational.

"There is a little bit of a Swedish connection with Pi-Lillebi and Ellen, who have grown to know Andrea fairly well in the last year or so," Belt said. "Even without that connection, Andrea was highly coveted. The great thing about having Pi and Ellen here is Andrea will have an easier time acclimating herself to Ole Miss with their leadership."
