Postgame Quotes vs. Chattanooga

OLE MISS HEAD COACH KERMIT DAVIS |
Opening statement…
"First of all, I had a sneaky feeling. I started watching Chattanooga on tape, and watching Lamont Paris' team, they've really gotten much better over the last three or four games. We haven't really been tested at home yet, exhibition or the first four games. It was just something I thought would happen, and it did. It was my first time as the coach at Ole Miss to get down in the second half at home and watch your fans and players respond, so to me that was a cool thing and I enjoyed it. You saw the fan base get into it. I think they were a big part of our run. I've been through some runs, I don't know if any of them were 28-0 runs. I remember playing Roy Williams' team at Kansas, I was on the other end of like a 27-1 run back at Idaho, back in 1989 I think it was, at Allen Fieldhouse. I think it was good. I was proud of our players. We had a great test from Chattanooga. We went into halftime, and I thought it was best for our team not to start Terence Davis. I thought D.C. Davis gave us some great energy. He started us off right, but I enjoyed watching TD respond to that in a really mature way."
On what he saw during the 28-0 run…
"Our defense more than anything. Breein Tyree got going, he just got going and he can do that some days in practice. He's a real confident offensive player, but really it was just points off turnovers. We got our hands on a bunch of loose balls, blocked shots, they got sped up and then the game in transition, and we really started executing. We came out of a timeout, our guys really executed a back door play to Devontae Shuler. He laid it in, got fouled and that was the big play for our team. There are a lot of things that have to go right, but the biggest thing during a 28-0 run is the defensive end and that's what happened."
On Chattanooga's last minutes before the half…
"Terence Davis had a bunch of breakdowns, short closeouts, scouting report stuff, two feet inside the three on shooters, overloaded a zone one time. We just had some breakdowns, and they make you pay for every one of them. We couldn't guard the three, and it was just one of those things we came in at halftime and I'd like to say it was great adjustments but it wasn't. We just competed a lot harder. We did the things we'd been working on the last two or three days in practice."
On closing out play towards the end of halves this season…
"We really haven't done anything different, so that is something where we have to go back and evaluate offensive things that we're calling, defenses that were in, but I agree it's sure something we're going to take a look at."
