Two Rebels in Top 20 Through 36 Holes in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- It was a difficult 36 holes for Ole Miss women's golf to start the SunTrust Gator Invitational Saturday.
The fast, sloping greens at Mark Bostick Golf Course made for a frustrating day for the Rebels, who sit in eighth place (294-294--588) going into the final round.
"We encountered a tough golf course with tricky greens today," said head coach Kory Henkes. "It is crucial on this course to miss in the correct spots or you create tough up-and-down opportunities or difficult putts for yourself. We didn't put ourselves in the best positions today, but the team is hungry to play again tomorrow."
Julia Johnson and Katy Harris led the way for the Rebels, each in the top 20 through two rounds.
Johnson spent much of the day inside the top five thanks to a team-best 29 pars, the second-highest total in the tournament thus far. The freshman from St. Gabriel, Louisiana, played to 1-over par (70) through 18 holes. She immediately worked her way back to even par with a birdie to open Round 2, and she'll enter the final round at 3-under (71-72--143) and in a tie for 15th.
Harris, meanwhile, only improved as her day went on in Gainesville. The senior out of St. Simons Island, Georgia, used a birdie on her final hole to wrap up Round 1 at 4-over (74). In Round 2, she offset three bogeys with three birdies, including on her second-to-last hole to end up with Ole Miss' best round of the day-an even-par 70.
Diane Lim sits third among Rebels, one stroke ahead of Kie Purdom. Lim carded 25 pars, good for 11th in the field, to wrap up at 8-over. Purdom holed three birdies in a row for a solid 3-over (73) Round 1 and is 9-over for the tournament.
Ole Miss will tee off at 7 a.m. CT on Sunday for Round 3 at Mark Bostick Golf Course. The Rebels will start at holes 8-10 and will walk the course with Oregon and UCF.
