Rebels Tame the Tigers on the Road
4/6/2018 | Men's Tennis
AUBURN, Ala. -- In his first test as a Rebel, Ole Miss men's tennis freshman Finn Reynolds aced it, clinching a 4-3 win on the road at Auburn Friday night at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
With the match tied at 3-3, it was left up to a pair of freshmen in Reynolds and Auburn's Tad Maclean, to decide the winner. After winning the first set 6-1, Reynolds served for the match at 5-4 in the second, but Maclean rallied to steal the set 7-5. Reynolds broke right away in the third and never looked back, taking it 6-0 to clinch his first win for the Rebels.
Setting the stage for Reynolds, the Rebels won what would prove to be the difference, a huge doubles point. Fabian Fallert and Reynolds won 6-2 on court three and then Tim Sandkaulen and Grey Hamilton remained undefeated with a 6-4 win on court one to clinch the point.
The Rebels won four first sets, but Auburn tied the match with a straight set win on court four.
Sandkaulen handed the Rebels the lead again with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Edward Nguyen on court one.
Auburn picked up a win on court six to tie it again, with Fallert and Hamilton in third sets and Reynolds battling late in the second set.
Hamilton has stepped up big before when the Rebels needed it, and he did it again Friday, finishing off Olle Thestrup on court three, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.
Moments later, Auburn won the third set on court two to tie it at 3-3, just as Reynolds and Maclean were beginning their third set.

At the Net with Head Coach Toby Hansson
"It was a gutsy performance tonight. We started off well earning the doubles point and the first sets on four courts in singles. We knew that Auburn would put up a good fight and I am proud of the way we responded. To see Finn out there doing his thing when the match was on the line was a thing of beauty."
Freshman Finn Reynolds on Clinching
"It's pretty sweet to get my first clinch as a Rebel, especially on the road. I just tried to have fun and do everything I could for the team to get the win. When I got the first break of the third set it gave me confidence and put me in a good position for the rest of the set. After I won that first game, the team was so pumped up, it helped me a lot. I won the next game and the one after that and just kept rolling."
