OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss women's tennis capped their most successful season in nearly 20 years with a final Oracle/ITA National Ranking of No. 8, while NCAA Champion Arianne Hartono equaled the program-best singles ranking at No. 2.
Ole Miss earned its highest final ranking since 1999, posted the most wins (22-7) since 1999, reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2010 and hosted the NCAA first and second rounds for the first time since 2012. The Rebels also earned their highest SEC finish (5th) in six years and reached the SEC Tournament Semifinals for the 11th time.
Hartono, who captured the program's first NCAA title on Monday, is one of just two players in the history of the program to end the year ranked among the top 10 in singles and doubles, also finishing No. 7 in doubles with sophomore Alexa Bortles. The SEC Player of the Year posted a 37-6 record, which ties for second on the all-time single-season wins list at Ole Miss. She also ranks eighth in career wins with 97. Hartono ended her career on a 17-match winning streak.
Freshman Sabina Machalova earned a final ranking of No. 79. She earned All-SEC second team honors and posted a 21-12 overall record including 13-9 in dual matches.
In doubles, Hartono and Bortles finished runner-up at the ITA Fall National Championship and spent most of the spring in the top 10. They posted a 23-13 overall record, 13-7 at No. 1 doubles and ended the year as the second highest ranked team in the SEC. Hartono and Bortles earned a 5-8 seed in doubles and reached the second round, before falling to the eventual national champions.
