Four Rebels Named to SEC Preseason Watch List

8/15/2018 | Soccer

OXFORD, Miss. โ€“ With mere days standing between Ole Miss and its 2018 regular season opener, CeCe Kizer, Channing Foster, Marnie Merritt and Mary Kate Smith have been named to the SEC Preseason Watch List, announced Wednesday by the conference office.

It is the third-straight selection to the preseason list for both Kizer and Merritt, while Foster and Smith are each making their first appearance.

For Kizer, the laurel is one among many that have been bestowed upon the senior heading into her final season in Oxford. One of the program's most prolific players in its history, the Overland Park, Kansas native is coming off of a junior campaign in which she led the SEC in both goals and points, becoming Ole Miss' first-ever United Soccer Coaches All-American.

Foster begins her second season in the Magnolia State after bursting onto the scene last season as a freshman. The Murray, Kentucky product ranked third in the conference in points and goals, leading to a Second Team All-SEC nod and a spot on the league's all-freshman team.

Merritt has been a Stalwart between the posts for the Rebels throughout her career and is looking to finish strong in her final season in an Ole Miss kit. The senior netminder started 19 matches last season, posting a 1.18 goal against average, keeping six clean sheets.

After transferring from Jones County Junior College in 2017, Smith enters her second and final season at Ole Miss. One of four native Mississippians on the roster, Smith makes the watch list despite adjusting to a new position in 2018. Spending the entirety of her junior season as a winger, Smith appears to be a natural at her new fullback position.

Ole Miss kicks off the regular season on Friday, taking on Louisiana at 7 p.m. at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. The match is one of two on the weekend for the Rebels, with WKU coming to town on Sunday.
