CeCe Kizer Named SEC Offensive Player of the Week
8/20/2018 | Soccer
OXFORD, Miss. – After leading the league in both points and goals through the opening weekend of the regular season, Ole Miss midfielder/forward CeCe Kizer has been tabbed the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for week one, announced Monday by the conference office.
It is the second time in the senior's vaunted career that she has been named the league's offensive player of the week, earning the same honor after the opening week of the 2017 season.
Kizer was a huge factor in the Rebels' two victories during the week, playing a part in half of Ole Miss' 10 goals, scoring four and assisting on another. The senior's four goals and nine points were both tops in the conference despite only playing 89 minutes across the two matches.
It didn't take Kizer long to make an impact for Ole Miss, setting up freshman Haleigh Stackpole for the first goal of the season in just the second minute against Louisiana. The Overland Park, Kansas native also closed scoring in the 6-0 drubbing of the Ragin' Cajuns.
After opening her account in the opening game, Kizer asserted herself a couple days later against WKU. The senior gave the Rebels the lead just before the break and bagged two more scores in the second half, registering the second hat trick of her career as Ole Miss cruised to a 4-0 victory.
Kizer and Ole Miss hit the road for the first time in 2018 this Friday, travelling to Minnesota for a 7 p.m. showdown in Minneapolis. The Rebels will follow up with a return to Oxford, hosting Murray State at 6 p.m. at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
