Rebels Begin Season Sept. 9 in Kiawah Island, S.C.
OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's golf team announced its upcoming schedule for the 2018-19 season, featuring a return to nine events from this past year, one of which the Rebels return as the defending champions.
"We are extremely excited to get this season started," said head coach Chris Malloy. "You come to Ole Miss to compete against the best teams in the country on the best courses in the world. After one glance at this schedule, I think everyone would agree that we have accomplished both of these goals. We have an amazing balance of very talented young players as well as an abundance of veterans that have played on the highest level of collegiate golf. Anything is possible for this group and I look forward to getting them back on campus soon."
Ole Miss will begin the season at the Ocean Course Invitational (Sept. 9-11) in Kiawah Island, South Carolina. The Rebels follow their season opener by returning to the prestigious Shoal Creek Golf Club (Sept. 24-25) in Birmingham, Alabama, site of the 2018 U.S. Women's Open.
Ole Miss travels north for the Erin Hills Intercollegiate (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, site of the 2017 U.S. Open. Braden Thornberry will look to three-peat as champion when the Rebels head to Nashville for the FAM Intercollegiate (Oct. 7-9). Finishing out the fall, the Rebels will travel back to the island of Hawaii for the Warrior Princeville Invitational (Oct. 28-30).
To kick off the spring slate, Ole Miss heads to Clearwater Beach, Florida for a match play event with the South Florida men's golf team on February 24.
The Rebels begin a busy March by traveling internationally for the Querencia Cabo Collegiate (March 3-5) in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and stay out west for the Lamkin San Diego Classic (March 11-12). Two years ago, Ole Miss went out to San Diego and came back with a team title. The Rebels return to the Hootie at Bulls Bay as defending champions (March 24-26), in which they shot a school record final round score of 269 (-19) with Thornberry earning medalist honors.
The Rebels stay local for a final tune up before the SEC Championship, heading south for the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship (Apr. 15-16), in West Point, Mississippi.
The SEC Championship returns to Sea Island, Georgia on April 25, where the Rebels advanced to the quarterfinals of match play a year ago. Cecil Wegener was the top finisher for the Rebels, finishing runner-up individually.
NCAA postseason play begins with regional competition May 12-15. The 2019 NCAA Championships will take place at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas (May 24-29).
