52nd Edition to Take Place in Korea
CHANGWON, Korea– Current Ole Miss rifle senior Randi Loudin and former two-time All-American Alison Weisz are set to compete against the world's best at the 52nd International Shooting Sport Federation World Championships in early September.
The pair will take aim at the Changwon International Shooting Center. Opening ceremonies are set for Saturday, Sept. 1 at 4:10 a.m. CST.
Weisz, a 2017 graduate from Belgrade, Montana, will compete in the 10m Women's Air Rifle discipline on Tuesday, September 4. Finals will be held at 10:15 p.m. the same day.
Loudin, from Post Falls, Idaho, will give her best shot in the 50m Women's Rifle Prone event on Wednesday, September 5.
"(I'm) really excited," Loudin said. "It's my first international competition. It will be something new and something I can learn from, especially to come back and start the season afterwards."
It will be Loudin's first trip overseas. She is excited to reunite with a former teammate.
"It'll be fun," Loudin said. "It'll be cool to have a familiar face."
Athletes will attempt to earn Olympic quotas in hopes of qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. The quotas will be secured in Olympic individual and team events according to the IOC-approved Olympic qualification regulations for Shooting. Regulations can be found at the ISSF website.
In addition to the 12 Mixed Team quotas that will be awarded during the Championship, a total of 48 individual event quotas will be awarded during the WCH (4 in each Olympic event).
The ISSF World Championships are held every four year, including 18 men's and 11 women's individual and team events, as well as 15 men junior events and 9 women junior events. In addition, there will be three Mixed Team events for seniors and three for junior athletes.
For a complete championship schedule visit the ISSF website. Times on the schedule are 14 hours ahead of CST. Live results and additional information on Olympic qualifying quotas can also be found at the ISSF website.
