Fresh Faces: Soccer's Morgan McAslan
8/9/2018 | Soccer
In the fifth of a six-part series introducing the Ole Miss soccer newcomers for the 2018 season, Thursday's profile features freshman goalkeeper Morgan McAslan.
What made you choose Ole Miss?
There are so many reasons that set Ole Miss apart from all the other schools I was looking at during my recruiting process from the beautiful campus to the amazing coach staff, this place really has it all. I think the first thing the shocked me when I came on my visit was the sports facilities all of the fields, stadiums, change rooms, weight rooms etc. are like what professional athletes would get making the sport facilities here one of the best in the country! Not only that but at this school I knew being an athlete I would be treated very well. I was blown away to see all the extra resources, tutoring, advising, academic support that is available to athletes to make sure we are able to succeed not only on the field but in the classroom. The coaches were another big reason I decided to come to Ole Miss, right away I felt a great connection with all the coaches and staff on the team and thought very highly of them and felt they are the type of coaches that will make me better and that I would love to play for! Overall, I love everything about Ole Miss and even though it was far from home it was an opportunity I could not pass up.
What do you like most about Ole Miss and Oxford?
So far, I have loved the people the most! I love how friendly and welcoming all the people on campus, on the soccer team and in the town of Oxford has been to me since I've got here. I am also loving all the great restaurants and food places there are in town!
What are you most looking forward to during your first season at Ole Miss?
I am looking forward to finally being able to play in my first college game! I am mainly looking forward to the SEC tournament at Orange beach!
Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
Before every game I always touch the crossbar then jump 3 times on the top of the box. Every time I play a good gameI try and repeat everything I did before that game before the next game as well.
Is there anyone you try to model your game after? If so, why?
I have always been a big fan and watched a lot of Hope Solo, so I have always tried to model my game after her. As she as been recognized as at one point the best female goalkeeper in the world and has accomplished so much over her career I like to be able to take tips from the best of the best and apply it to my game in hopes to improve.
