Women’s Golf Opens Fall Season at Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Ole Miss women's golf team will head to Tennessee today for the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship (Sept. 17-18) to open up their fall season. The two-day event will be played at Cherokee Country Club which will be playing 5,900 yards and par 71.
The 17-team field consists of the host team University of Tennessee, BYU, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Kentucky, East Tennessee State, Illinois, Iowa, Kent State, Kentucky, Maryland, Middle Tennessee, Ole Miss, South Dakota State, Tennessee, UTSA, and UCF.
"We are looking forward to kicking off our season this weekend in Knoxville," said head coach Kory Henkes. "We have a great group of athletes who have high expectations for a successful season. Our team has put in a tremendous amount of work and they are excited to tee it up against a talented field at Cherokee Country Club."
Henkes, who begins her fourth season, will be taking five Rebels to compete at the event. Ellen Hutchinson-Kay will be in the number one position, followed by Julia Johnson, Conner Beth Ball, Kie Purdom, and Martina Flori.
The Rebels opened up at the event in 2016, tying for 10th overall with a top-20 finish from Pi-Lillebi Hermansson.
The player to watch will be Julia Johnson who leads the Rebels heading into her second year after being named SEC Freshman of the Year last season. The sophomore had ten straight top-20 finishes in her first year of college golf.
Conner Beth Ball begins her sophomore season after being named to the SEC All-Freshman Team a year ago.
Ellen Hutchinson-Kay will be making her collegiate debut, while seniors Kie Purdom and Martina Flori round out the Rebel lineup.
First round begins Monday morning with an 8:30 a.m. ET shotgun start.
